Excellence in the Use of IT for a Mobile Workforce Award

EMS Solutions and Field Access Systems have assisted PowerNet to win the "Excellence in the Use of IT for a Mobile Workforce" category in the New Zealand Computerworld Excellence Awards.

Invercargill based Electricity Lines Company PowerNet, recently won the Excellence in the Use of IT for a Mobile Workforce category in the Computerworld Excellence Awards for the implementation of a Mobile Solution for Improved Tree Management.

The award was presented at a glittering Awards ceremony in Auckland on Friday evening 29 th July. The Computerworld Excellence Awards celebrate the achievements of New Zealand's leading information technology users and were first held in early 1998. The Awards publicly salute the efforts of those individuals and teams who successfully apply information technology to meet the needs of users in their organisations.

EMS Solutions' consultant Euan Little worked closely with PowerNet's Dave Dunlop to supply, develop and integrate the FAS (Field Access Systems) AssetWare in-field data capture application with the EMS-WASP® Assets and Works Management system used by PowerNet.

This solution was developed to assist arborists in effective tree management. The solution offered in-field data capture that integrates with the EMS-WASP® assets and works management database, providing arborists with instant access to the list of trees needing work. The ability to integrate key information at the handheld and upload the required data into the backend WASP database, with no manual input, plus maintain referential integrity with the database, has been an integral part of the success of this project. The display of maps on the hand held, together with the ability to photograph the tree and attach this to the asset record are additional features of the solution.

This solution reinforces WASP's ability to relate a new asset (a tree) to an existing asset i.e. a pole and build a comprehensive asset register (together with any required work tasks) from routine field inspections with little administrative overhead.
